iphones today in front of us we have the iphone 13 pro max and this is the part of the intro where i convince you that there’s something super brand-new and super cool inside to check out even though it suspiciously looks like an iphone 12. well there’s definitely something super new and cool inside to check out that’s for sure and now you’re wondering if that was a joke or if it’s really true or perhaps i’m just killing time because these telephones are a royal pain to take apart let’s is starting[ Applause][ Music] let’s be honest apple does some really gone things like sell or building ecosystems but making such a phones easy to reparation is not one of them in fact apple departs out of their room to make their phones hard to fix it’s like a really not fun competition that apple’s been frisking since day 1 and the people who lose are the customers in the planet the iphone 13 pro max has two pentalobe fucks down at the bottom just like normal and then with hot and suction the screen can start to lift up and out of the stainless steel housing this is much harder than it gazes by the way since the screen is flush with the frame it’s hard to get a good grip on that screen without cracking it peculiarly since glass is glass and we know what happens to glass keep in mind that if you ever cracking the back glass on your iphone 13 pro max apple will bill you 599 dollars to supersede it luckily bigger telephone repair shops probably have a laser glass remover by now so if you don’t want to play apple’s game or don’t have insurance you can always go to one of those now that we have the screen off feel free to feast your eyes on these internals it’s interesting that apple has made time to print the a15 bionic text on the motherboard paying extra to publish in a arrange that nobody is supposed to see unless apple’s counting on parties witnessing it during my tear down and by expose that a15 bionic branding it introduces awareness to apple’s proprietary chip difficult if you don’t keep your bolts coordinated it’s competition over with the spectacle removed the screen is actually pretty thin apple’s still use the oled display on these brand-new telephones they’re label it super retina the ribbon cable on the top contains a microphone closenes sensor and light-colored sensor up inside that top notch the cameras and earpiece are still left inside of the sud torso are talking about which there was still two more screws hold to a third metal dish just south of that a15 bionic east of the a15 bionic we have a super sizable metal illustration covering up the camera unit with its five bolt to keep the screws unionized i lay out the clamps around the metal plates on my counter and then simply try not to sneeze for the rest of the repair i’ll get a has decided to stabilize the internal sensor let me show you how “whos working” it might sound like i’m praising apple here for a second because i am but i promise i’ll keep it coming short like normal all of the cameras are locked together inside of the same housing which acquires swapping between all three attitudes in the camera app much faster and more seamless but it also means we need to resort to fatal analysis to see what’s going on speedy question though do you remember those old school lego bionicles i’m not sure what reminded me of those but anyway back to the camera with the rear metal removed so we can see that sensor inside it’s actually shifting around in the residence the reason this is better or more efficient is that the sensor is much lighter than the camera lens it weighs less so it’s much easier to move around and therefore quicker apple’s brand-new sensor displacement technology can stabilize an image five times faster than regular lens optical portrait stabilization last year this tech was only available on the iphone 12 promax but this year apple has applied the move sensor tech to the main camera sensor of all 13 discrepancies “youre seeing” the four large magnets that influence the sensor inside of the lens and on the sensor back there are little copper pads at each reces that can be moved by the magnetic field tiny tiny tech but procreates for a pretty cool system enormous professional cameras i’ve been using this kind of stabilization for a while now like on the inside of my gh5 this is the same camera i used to film my videos with the sensor moves around inside of the home and as far as i know apple is the only smartphone manufacturer to implement this style of stabilization into a smartphone neat duty apple thumbs up for that i’ll set the sensor back into the lens it’ll be interesting to see if this thing still makes when i got employed the whole thing back together again one thing i’m moderately proud of actually is that we’ve managed to incorporate that sensor changing camera lens hardware into my tear down skin and since the hardware exists in all iphone 13 examples each one of them will have the copper accents around the motherboard i’ll unsnap snap snap snap snap snap snap snap snap snap off 10 more ribbon cables just like an entire casket of legos pop out the sim card tray and remove two large standoff pin with our fourth screwdriver flake and this is it the entire brains of the iphone 13 pro max doubled stacked solder together motherboards super consolidated for some reason i can’t remember the name of apple’s processor though i think it was b1 4 cryogenic i’m not good with figures but wait there’s more a fourth camera a lidar camera is also sitting inside the massive rear camera lens apple chiefly applies this chap for low-spirited glowing auto focusing up at the top of the phone we can remove three more screws pop off a little metal thingy and remove a fourth standoff and then our loudspeaker is free along with the figurehead facing cameras the hell is folded underneath that orator these cameras make up the face id scanning trash with a fleck projector and an infrared camera the regular 12 megapixel front-facing selfie camera does have electronic stabilization down at the bottom of the iphone 13 “were having” 12 more screwings once those are gone there’s a piece of videotape holding down the loudspeaker to the taptic instrument apple’s thought parole for a vibrator that furnishes haptic feedback i’ll make a dedicated video about vibrators at some top in the future this little guy actually does some pretty cool things at first glance the iphone 13 pro doesn’t appear to have any pellets inside that bottom loudspeaker but if you pierce it in exactly the right place we can indeed watch the little guys these afford more surface area inside the speaker for the resound to reverberate off of inducing the speaker sound larger than it actually is the billing port ribbon is the last ribbon down here at the bottom of the phone and if we count there are another eight clamps spread out all over even adhering sideways into the made it’s pretty crazy in here so much better so in fact that all of these little protrusions on the bill port ribbon say apple uses too many clamps in chinese braille it’s funny because you don’t know if i’m joking or not and tim cook’s probably going to go check lastly the battery which does have supernatural pull invoices[ Music] apple has expanded the artillery capacity just slightly this year[ Music] and these pull invoices are the only repairable thing about this phone watch them be gone next year with these two pull tabs drew we can lift up the battery to find two much smaller pull tabs up at the top which we could have also experienced but i didn’t see them this year’s iphone 13 pro max has 4 325 milliamp hours pretty solid increase over last year’s 3687. For reference i still need about 6 000 of these artilleries to match the energies of the electrical hummer i’m house eventually the last layer of coolness inside of the iphone 13 pro max is the wireless billing and magnets on the back you can see the copper curls and drawings of the 20 magnets and like i don’t want to show off but it’s all identically mirrored on my tear down skin from outside the phone i’ll throw down some double-sided tape to keep the battery from shaking around after it’s put back together assembling this thing is basically accurately like the nightmare you’d expect it to be while putting the bottom loudspeaker back into the phone i have found that the projectiles are spilling everywhere a little piece of tape will solve that problem another real question though is that let’s say you want to replace anything in now the artillery the screen or the cameras you’ll get ceaseless warning label saying that you’re not applying sincere apple factors even if the components you used were collected from a sincere apple phone apple has held every individual component to the phone it was created with and with that ability is one step away from blocking all third party mends which is insane no other manufacture is like this i can change the tires on my vehicle or my windshield my oil alternator or exhaust or my graphics placard in my computer the retention adheres or the colored followers i can correct those things because i actually own them but if i can’t change the components inside of my own iphone without father apple’s assent do i really own my iphone i think not apple still owns the iphone you thought you paid for yeah arrange a dispute or screen shield on your phone can prolong his life and avoid paying apple’s exorbitant repair rates but i think we can all agree it’s a little messed up peculiarly when these phones are expensing as much as my first gondola personally i was able to harvest proportions from a broken greenback 10 plus to keep my own phone around for a few cases more times and apple is doing everything they can to prevent that same statu with their phones apple sells about 200 million phones a year so amending them is a big deal and yeah they’d sell a few cases little if they allowed fixings but it would be much better overall for your purse and countries around the world if they did it’s hard to take any of apple’s environmental recycling progress dangerously when they aren’t doing the thin and reusing areas firstly the smashed camera is in place along with the screen and all the metal plates bolt down next to the a1 5 bionic and to everyone’s surprise including my own everything still runs sometimes you’ll need to plug it in to get the screen to strength up anker is the official charging partner of j-rig everything so i use their fast chargers and cables i’ll get the two pentalobe shafts back into the base of the phone and even more surprising than the phone still turning on is that the bus setup camera module is actually still operating even when you have rent the sensor away from the lens to double check i can throw my finger over the lowest lens the one we destroyed and it’s still seeing my finger kind of mind blow the phone can definitely survive mends if apple would just let them happen have you ever amended your own phone or had it amended let me know down in specific comments stumble that agree button if you haven’t already came to see you with me on instagram and call and thanks a ton for watching i’ll see you around
