How To: Replace the iPhone 4’s Battery in 2 Minutes

While the iPhone 4 artillery is a big improvementover its precedes, over age the national capacity will decrease, and youll feel the pressureto buy a brand-new phone, just because it doesnt nursed service charges like it used to. Heres the large-scale confidential: you can replace thebattery yourself. It simply takes about 10 instants and is waycheaper than buying a whole new phone. Hi, I’m mj with iFixit, and today I’m goingto show you how to supersede the battery on your iPhone 4. This is likely to be the most wonderful reparation you’ll everdo, but just in case, you’ll want to follow the fixing guide on our site. Tool-wise, this reparation couldn’t get much easier. All you’ll need is a Phillips # 00 screwdriver. I’m consuming the one from our 26 bit flake driverkit, some plastic opening tools and your replacement battery. Now there is a chance apple didn’t use phillipsscrews on your iPhone. Apple has also been using a 5 point tamperresistant screw, and if your phone has those, you will want to check out our iPhone 4 liberationkit. It comes with the driver you will need toget those screwings out. The only trick to this repair is to make surethe silent switch is activated and the phone is powered off before you begin. So to start, I’ll remove these two Phillipsscrews on either side of the dock connector then I’ll push the rear committee toward the topedge of the iPhone– It’ll exclusively move around 2 millimeters. After slithering it upward a little, the rearpanel should come off readily. Theres merely one shaft I need to removeto free the battery, so Im going to remove it and then … squander my iPod opening tool to gently pry upthe artillery connector. Youll want to only pry it from the topand bottom of the connector, and be careful not to pry against the pressure contact. Once that screw is out and the connector isdisconnected, I can remove the antenna contact from the phone and set it aside. Now I can use the plastic pull-tab to removemy old battery. Apple squandered an unwarranted sum of adhesiveon some iPhones, so if youre genuinely struggling to remove the battery with the pull-tab, tryusing an iPod opening tool to lever up the artillery instead. With the old battery out, I can situate the newbattery in; before you connect the artillery connector, make sure the minuscule little pressurecontact is in position. Too, clean off all of the metal-to-metalcontact points with windex or some other kind of degreaser before you reassemble your iPhonebecause the oils on your digits can cause wireless interference, and with AT& T as yourcarrier you really cant afford that. KIDDING! Not really … After Ive scavenged off my contact points, Im ready to reassemble my iPhone, and I can get back to playing Angry Birds withoutkilling my battery. Of course, you can find the parts and toolsyou’ll need for this and many other restores at iFixit.com.And if you run into questions during your restores, there are tons of resources available on the iPhone 4 repair manual page. Thanks for watching, and joyful repairing !.
