– 48 megapixel camera, 8K video, 8 gigabytes of RAM, 2 terabytes of SSD, 4-nanometer chipset, satellitemodem, with titanium rails. And, yes, the mother of all gap swipes. It’s the iPhone 14, and by all histories, it’s gonna be something, exactly not everything , not for everyone, because there are a few reallytruly fiercely rumored pieces that really don’t seem to have create the trimmed, at least not this year.So smacked that agree buttonand belt and seizure a beverage because I’m gonna tell you what and why. Face ID, which Apple switched to with the iPhone 10 back in 2017, face ID needs to see the triangle between our two looks and our mouths in order to collect fairly facial geometry to make a secure match. Cover the bottom of thattriangle with a mask, and there’s just not enough geometry left to acquire that equal. It’d be like comprise half yourfingerprint with a band-aid. And, yes, Apple shipped a really cleverwatch-based workaround, but you need a watchfor it to work around.Hence, the sensuality in so manyhearts to get touch ID back. Now, Apple doesn’t originate personas flex telephones like some other fellowships do. They don’t merely are walking haphazardly snatching substance off the shelves, smacking it together and shipit in less than a year. Everything about an iPhone is custom. So the time it takesto build to design one is generally closer to two to three years. So even the really secreted iPhone 13 was like halfway out thedoor by the time 2020 punched us, like the “Game of Thrones” finale. But here’s the thing. Apple’s already get power button touch ID shipping on the 2020 iPadAir and the 2021 iPad Mini. Now, granted, a lot of cases cover the power button on the iPhone, but those cases can be modified and precisely a inferno of a lotfaster than the iPhone roadmap. There have also been rumors, the two reports of under display touch ID coming to the iPhone for years once, by which I symbolize every yearfor the last few years, there have been reports ofit coming for the next year, like the “Avatar” sequels or something. And, yes, the prosecutionwill confess, Your Honor, that numerous under displayfingerprint books on other telephones are tera-bad, but Apple supposedly has their own homegrownacoustical scan tech. And since they’re playing neat with Qualcomm over modems now, it’s not unimaginablethat they could play nice over Qualcomm’s ultrasonicscanner tech either. Yet, again, the latestreports from this year say maybe we’ll identify underdisplay touch ID next year. So are there licensing issues to work out? Is Apple merely still not happywith the basic tech more? Or is touch ID really, genuinely merely gonna come on the minute all the masks start coming off. Real honest to Eobard zoom is pretty much the last majorpiece of the camera puzzle that Apple still has left to solve. But apart from a 3X punch-in, you still can’t really capture your child playing across your football plain or the actual architectural details further down or higher up on a city walk. You know, if you’retourist thing or something. And that’s just exactly whereperiscope cameras come in.Periscope, because a proper zoom compels merely nature, action too much depth to fit into a super reduce phone enclosing. So if you can’t let it go deep, you let it go wide instead. You fold it sideways tofit across the enclosure, and then use mirrors topoint it back out the back. Basically less submarine outie and more like spy craft innie. And you can get a hellazoom out of those things, like full on frightening levels of zoom, if you don’t care too much about the quality or the righteousnes, but you can also get reallygood levels of entirely beneficial and appropriate zoom out of them as well. But just like touch ID, periscope has both been rumoredfor the last couple of years and ever said to becoming injust another couple of years. So is this because the Samsungand Huaweis of the world have patents that Applehave to either make around or permission out, or is it because, in spite of theirtrips-trillion market cap, Apple’s insisting on keepingteams small-scale and highly focused means that the more confidentlyrumored for this year 48 megapixel wide direction is just saturating thecamera team’s bandwidth? So the periscope camera we’lljust have to wait his turn, will have to wait to be next, maybe again. Last-place time, Apple narrowedthe notch, the natch, a bit. This time, its latest report show they’ll beswapping it out entirely for a fleck and a panache of a pit perforate, at least on the pro models. But there have also been reports that Apple intended to delete it, exactly magic eraser it perfectly away, and likewise impel the whole entirecamera and face ID system, if not go away, at leastdisappear under the display. And the method that currentlyworks on other phones is by stretching out the OLEDpixels as much as possible so the camera can shoot throughthem as far as is possible, but there are two main issues with this. One, the stretched outpart of the OLED display isn’t relatively invisible. It’s practice little noticeable thana notch or a opening perforate, but it isn’t invisible. And two, the stretched OLED still intervenes with the camera capture enough to result in quite shirty data, to put things in the good place parlance. And to try to make up for that, they’ll run machine-learning algorithms, computational photography, but the end result intents up appearing somethinghalfway between a decent photo and merely a complete forkin’ mess.If you only completely hatethe notch and gap swipes like they’re splintersin your retina display, and you don’t care at all about selfies, FaceTime calls or face ID security, that might sound likeone hell of a good deal, just like done and done, but on the most popular phone and camera system in the world, that’s a problem for a lot of people who do care very, very much about their selfies and their FaceTimes and, you are familiar with, use them to keep Instagram and TikTok in business, and I don’t even know whichside of this I’m on now. Either space, anyway, acompletely clean display, bereft of any draw of notch or gap had again being rumored for next year, but like the future, it’s always coming andyet never quite arriving, probably because Apple’swaiting on implementation that really is near flawless.Reverse, AKA bi-directional, inductive bill is pretty much exactly whatit sounds like on the tin. Instead of swiping your iPhone onto a Qi or Magsafe disk to blame it, you can use iPhone as a Qi or MagSafe disk and time slap your AirPodsdown to charge them, same to how you canslap your Apple pencil onto the side of your iPad to blame it. It’s still, of course, of course , nowhere nearly as goodas time plugging in.But if there’s anything humans be concerned about more than efficiency, it’s accessibility. “Were not receiving” future viability that we won’t mortgage inthe reputation of present ease, but other telephones have been offering bi-directional inductivecharging for years. Even the iPhone MagSafe battery pack can turn freight off the iPhone 13 if the iPhone 13 is plugged in, and maybe it’s because Appleis just religiously to report to ever giving up any, I make, any of the iPhones cherished, precious battery life to any other peasant device like AirPods or any device that’s notitself a battery extender. Or given the inefficienciesof inductive bill, Apple really may not yet be happy with the battery life trade off, the one that they’re seeingwhen charging anything other than something that bills back, like the amplification only doesn’tmake up for the depletion, at least not yet. Okay, it’s time, real talk.We could go round and roundon Lightning versus USB-C until we gale the earth back a epoch, but nerds won’t be happyuntil we can plug one cable, the same cable into our Max, iPad, Switches, Androids, increasingly everythingelse and our iPhones, and regulars won’t be happyif “were coming” anywhere near their Lightning cables or CarPlay wires. So no matter what Apple does, either the very loud or the very numerous are gonna be very, very angry. But here’s the thing. We had just about 10 yearsof 30 -pin dock connector before Apple began switchingit out to Lightning, And we’ve now had justabout 10 years of Lightning. So it feels like it’s time for Apple to start switching Lightning out. It’s just unclear of what Apple should be switchingLightning out to is USB-C. And let me finish, because, yes, USB-C would offermulti-device compatibility, which would be a huge convenience for people living multi-device beings. And, again, humen are willingto trade almost anything, anything for availability. It would entail dongles forolder supplementaries and CarPlay, but so would changingLightning to anything else. And it would be faster than Lightning because camera paraphernaliums for iPads aside, Apples restrained Lightning cableslocked to USB-2 rushes since their inception, while every iPad that’smade the switch to USB-C has understood its data transferrates go up 10 crease at the very least, which mayseem unnecessary on an iPhone. Completely superfluous. I get it. But Apple did just drop allsix gigabytes per minute of ProRez on the iPhone 13 Pro last year. So it’s kind of super hella required now. It’s just that USB-C isalready six years old now.And if Apple performs the samedecade long commitment to USB-C that they established the 30 -pin dockconnector and to Lightning, that would make it 16 year olds by the time 2032 rolls around. And Trekker-check me on this, satisfy. It may seem like even the Enterprise proceeded from C to D faster than that. And don’t get me wrong, because as far as I know, there aren’t even rumorsof a USB type D yet, but that seems like a long, long time for a cable to be stagnant, especially when we all knowthat just like the Enterprise, E will be terminated being the verybest one regardles, oppose me. But there likewise aren’t any credible rumors about the iPhone switching to USB-C, at least that we’ve seen so far. And I mean, I would all-caps cherish it. I’d affection it because ProRez, but I’m only ever gonnaexpect it now when I see it. What there are still, what there are persistent rumors about, is Apple starting precisely completelyportlets on a future iPhone and routing pretty much everything through some warp digivolvedversion of MagSafe, which I just made awhole part video about. And you can watch theextended explanation of it and of this very video on Nebula.
